Many people confuse the terms labels, stickers, and tags, even though they are all different items. They do have some things in common: you use them when sending envelopes and packages, and they provide certain information. In this blog post, we explain the differences between labels, stickers, and tags.

What is a tag?

A tag is a self-adhesive piece of paper or fabric that you stick onto packaging or a product. You can then write text on the tag, such as an address. You can also use pre-printed tags. In that case, the information is already provided, and all you have to do is stick the blank tag onto the letter or package. A tag usually provides specific information about the product or packaging. A sticker can also provide general information, such as warning labels for fragile items.

What is a label?

A label can also be a collective term for different labels that belong to the same group, such as our Dymo Labels. There is not much difference between a label and a tag. A label can contain the same information as a tag, and ā€œlabelā€ is the English translation of the Dutch word for tag. So the terms are often used interchangeably.

What is a sticker?

A sticker, like a label, is self-adhesive and can be stuck onto packaging or a product. Unlike labels and tags, stickers usually feature an image rather than text. Stickers come in all kinds of shapes, types, and sizes, with all sorts of different images. They are usually made of vinyl (a type of plastic), which makes them feel a little thicker than labels and tags. Because they are made of vinyl, stickers are also water-resistant. They can also withstand a fair amount of wear and tear.<></>
